12 Nights Greenland - The Ultimate Fjord Voyage

12 Nights Greenland - The Ultimate Fjord Voyage

$10,799.00Price

We depart Iceland and head into the extremely remote eastern coast of Greenland, which is almost completely uninhabited. Here, we spend our days exploring the largest national park and the largest fjord in the world, keeping watch for a range of Arctic wildlife such as seals, musk oxen, Arctic foxes, and whales. Leaving these massive landscapes behind, we return to Iceland.

Day 1 - Reykjavik, Iceland - Capital of Iceland

Estimated time of departure is 8:00 PM

Reykjavik is the northernmost capital city in the world. The name means 'Smokey Bay', so called because of the columns of steam that rise from the many hot springs in the area. It is well worth booking a Pre-Program to explore the surrounding geysers, mountains, glaciers and geothermal baths before embarking MS Fridtjof Nansen.

Day 2 - At sea - Crossing the Denmark Strait

Today, the Expedition Team will introduce you to AECO – the Association of Arctic Expedition Cruise Operators – and their work to ensure that tourism in the Arctic preserves the vulnerable, natural environment, local cultures and cultural remains.
You can also spend time learning more about the wildlife and ecosystems of the Arctic in the onboard Science Center.

Day 3-11 - Scoresbysund Fjord System

You will spend the next nine days exploring the vast wilderness of Scoresby Sund, the world’s largest fjord system.

Cruising peacefully against a backdrop of looming mountains, blue icebergs, and mirror-like waters, you’ll seek out wildlife like whales and Greenlandic gyrfalcons. We will make the most of current conditions and pack in as many shore landings, nature walks, kayaking tours, and wildlife sightings as possible.

Visit Ittoqqortoormiit, the most remote inhabited community in the Western Hemisphere. Conditions permitting, we’ll sail towards the ever-changing eastern ice edge of the Greenland Sea to scout for wildlife.

If you want to do your part, participate in Citizen Science projects that help preserve the region for future generations.

Day 12 - Irminger Sea - Heading Back to Iceland

After exploring exhilarating Greenland, we set course back to Iceland. Spend the day at sea recapping your experiences, having fun in the Science Center or just relaxing on deck, looking at the sea birds which follow our ship or maybe even spotting whales.

Day 13 Reykjavik - The Stylish Capital of Iceland

Estimated time of arrival is 6:00 AM

You arrive back in the Icelandic capital early in the morning. If you want to explore more of the country, add one of our Post-Programs, or simply extend your stay to enjoy the city and its surroundings before you head home.
